El Ratón lies on a sloping sandy
bottom at an angle with the bow at 26m and the stern pointing down into
the blue at about 30m. This is a wreck that looks like a wreck - it's
beautifully intact and, although it was only sunk in recent years, it's
already very photogenic and has attracted a wealth of marine life.
The entry point is via a ladder adjacent to a man made
lido. As we follow the pipeline down to the wreck you can spot scorpionfish,
urchins and anemones. On the wreck itself jacks, grunts and barracuda
can be seen hanging out around the mast, and if you take time to look
into all the nooks and crannies, you'll see arrow crabs, moray eels and
shrimps.
